RMS Weekly Review
Volume 1 Issue 9
January 13, 2012 (That was weird typing that in)
It has been a busy week here a RMS. The transition from vacation to learning went well. I feel it was easier for the students than it was for the teachers. A lot of students stated that they were glad to be back.
Monday’s staff meeting was a productive one. The focus was on School Improvement and staff development. Staff started the process completing the worksheets of the School Improvement Framework’s 90 indicators. We were able to get through 14 of the 90 identified. The dialog between staff was very insightful and I will share their answers with them at the next staff meeting.
Fore the most part, it has been an uneventful week with our students; which I feel is a good thing.
Coffee with the Principal on Thursday was OK. I only had seven parents attend. The agenda to the meeting included a video from Wayne RESA regarding the implications of our new MEAP “cut-scores”. I also shared with them a PowerPoint on the amount of hours our students spend in school versus at home. The last part was a discussion on how can we get more community members involved in our school(s). I shared with them that we had only one participant for the Internet Safety presentation. They shared some ideas but they also agreed that it is an issue.
We are looking at taking advantage of the State picking up the bill for our eighth grade students taking the EXPLORE. In order for my staff to collect more data on how our instruction is meeting the needs for these types of national standard assessments, I purchased a retired EXPLORE test that will be administered to our seventh graders this year. We are hoping to give these two assessment at the same time that the high school administers the MME. All of this will give us some great data on how well we are doing as a school. We are also investigating other national standard tests to give to our fifth and sixth graders.. Unfortunately, cost will be the deciding factor here. I hope to have some data to share in the near future.
Parent-teacher conferences are next week. We are hoping for a decent turnout.
We had several electrical/lighting contractors in this week. We are hoping that we can get our auditorium’s lights fixed soon and at a decent price. The speakers have been removed and will be replaced soon as well.
Hope everyone had an enjoy Holiday.

Students will Learn
The Data will prove that what we are doing is Right.”
