RMS Weekly Review

That darn groundhog!!!!I was getting used to those 52 degree days.
At Monday’s staff meeting, I passed out our MEAP item analysis data to all content area teachers. I had them look at the GLCE’s where 75% of the students selected the incorrect response (which was quite a few). On an index card, I had them write their thoughts of why students did not do well on their GLCE’s. On the opposite side of the card, I had them brainstorm solutions. My purpose for this exercise was to show the staff what areas our students are doing poorly on. Furthermore, for them to start to personalize what they need to do, and believe in, to make the changes needed for our students to become successful.
Let me see...when you have staff members knocking on your door, wanting to be a part of your School Improvement Team (SIT), is that a good thing? Our SIT is up to a total of thirteen dedicated staff members now.
On Tuesday, we had our SIT a meeting. The first half of the day was completing our Audit Review for the State. The second half was going through the index cards and compiling data on the staff’s responses. We are going to use some of this data to help drive our School Improvement Plan this year. Our SIT is starting to “feel” the direction that we need to go as a building. There is a good buzz in the room; a positive energy. I am looking forward to working with this group and developing a plan that will have a “voice” amongst the staff and have some “teeth”.
During the Mobile dentist visit on Monday, they did find one student that had an abscessed tooth. Thankful for this free program, the dentist was able to contact the parents and get the student to their dentist office right away. We are looking to schedule them for a Spring visit and again next Fall.
Thursday, we had our PBiS rewards assemblies during sixth period. This time, our student were entertained by a group from the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. The message was focused on Education and Dedication. They asked the students several questions about the Red Wings, setting goals, nutrition, and making good choices. Unfortunately, none of the current players were able to attend. The presentation ended with a staff versus students shootout contest; I was chosen as the goalie for the staff. Staff won1-0. RMS was presented with a replica Stanley Cup banner and the equipment we used during the shootout; goals, goalie masks, hockey goalie equipment, sticks, and the pucks. All students received a Red Wing Folder on their way out. (Yours are in the inner-school mail for Monday).
Friday’s seventh and eighth grade Valentines Dance, another PBiS reward, was a success. Fun was had by all.
Have a great week.
